The Roasting Room by Buunni: A New Haven for Coffee Professionals and Enthusiasts
In the South Bronx Opens September 12th

New York City, September 10, 2024: Buunni Coffee is proud to announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting of their newest venture, The Roasting Room by Buunni, which will take place on September 12 at 11:00 AM at 542 Barretto Street, Bronx, NY 10474. The Roasting Room by Buunni promises to be a vibrant addition to the Hunts Point area, bringing the first local coffee roasting, co-roasting and specialty coffee education facility to the Bronx.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facility, experience live roasting demonstrations, sample some of the finest coffees in the world, and enjoy food and drinks from Buunni as well as other local Bronx businesses. With state-of-the-art roasting equipment, a team of skilled roasters, and the capacity to roast and pack over 14,000 pounds of coffee per day, The Roasting Room will reframe the Bronx as a specialty coffee destination.

"We are thrilled to bring The Roasting Room by Buunni to the South Bronx community," said Sarina Prabasi, Co-Founder of Buunni Coffee. "This space embodies our passion for coffee history, culture and craftsmanship, and our commitment to leveling the playing field in the specialty coffee industry.” The Roasting Room will be more than just a roastery; it's envisioned as a place for small and medium coffee businesses, and coffee professionals to grow their own coffee trajectory.

The co-roasting model removes the biggest barrier that small and medium coffee roasters face: the high costs of equipment and space in NYC. It will also serve as a destination for both coffee professionals and connoisseurs to take part in learning and development. In addition to putting the Bronx on the map as a coffee destination, The Roasting Room by Buunni will have other positive effects on the local economy.

“We call on larger businesses to be intentional in sourcing locally from small and medium businesses as this can have tremendous benefits for the local economic ecosystem”, said Elias Gurmu, Co-Founder. The Roasting Room by Buunni is also dedicated to sustainability and community engagement. The space is designed to be environmentally friendly, with initiatives in place to minimize waste and promote eco-conscious practices. This includes choosing the Loring S35 Kestrel roasters, which meet strict environmental and air quality guidelines and use significantly less energy. Buunni also partners with Bronx-based compost micro-hauler, Waste Not as well as community gardens in Harlem to compost byproducts like coffee chaff.

"We look forward to building meaningful relationships, and to open up opportunities in specialty coffee, for coffee entrepreneurs, students, and early career professionals from diverse backgrounds. To large businesses out there: we are ready to do business. To smaller businesses, we look forward to welcoming you and growing together”, said Sarina Prabasi, Co-Founder.
